Designing a Battle Event for Horny Legends

Horny Legends is an anime-style collectible card game. Players can change the look of their cards with special AI modifiers, take part in PvP battles, and join limited-time game events.

One project goal was to create a new event. It had to add variety to the game, increase player interest in key game mechanics, and encourage players to use the card modification system more often.

Challenge
The main game mechanics were card modification and betting on game events. Players liked collecting cards, but they rarely used modifiers. Sales of unique modifiers were also unstable.

We needed to give players a reason to use modifiers more often without breaking the game economy.
The solution was a battle event where character progress is directly linked to improving the card collection.

I was responsible for the user flow and UI/UX solutions.
Requirements
The mechanic was part of a limited-time event. The interface had to be clear and easy to use for both new and experienced players.

Players had to understand every step of the game flow, see the results of their actions, and receive clear visual feedback.
Solutions
The main game mechanic lets players change the look of cards with special modifiers. To encourage players to buy modifiers more often and spend in-game currency on their collection, we linked modification to card upgrades.

The more modifiers a player uses, the higher the card level and elemental attack power become. Better cards make the team stronger and help players complete boss dungeons more successfully.

The main game flow followed these steps: start the event → choose a boss → build a deck → fight → get rewards → improve cards with modifiers → make the team stronger for the next challenges.

During card modification, the interface clearly shows how changes affect card stats and battle power. The tutorial explains that regular use of modifiers raises card levels and increases the chance of completing dungeons successfully.

To make the event easier to use and reduce repeated actions, we added extra screens: an element interaction guide, card recovery with premium currency, and the option to fight a boss again.

Results
Thirty days after the event launch, the new mechanic had a positive effect on the game economy. Modifier sales increased by 13.5%, and premium currency purchases increased by 18.1%. This confirmed that card progression worked well in the event game loop.
